As some of you have heard, I cut my left thumb a while ago while slicing a bell pepper (ouch). My nail has a huge gash in it (I'm sure it will fall off) so I've been wearing a series of band-aids.
The trip was awesome. We really saw a lot, spending only a few nights in any one place. It was a special treat to meet Kenji's Japanese family and to share this experience with my mother-in-law.
Now, if only we could sleep on a normal schedule...
Happy birthday, Becca!
Or at least that is what it feels like. I had the great fortune (note sarcasm) to receive summons for a grand jury. It started yesterday and is every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday through December 20. Yikes. Yesterday and today I went to work after jury duty ended at 5:00, which made for two very long days.
Yesterday was super boring -- mostly sitting around while they dealt with the logistical issues of background checks, ID badges, etc. Today we actually started hearing cases, which was interesting but terribly depressing. We will potentially review 200 cases (!) during my tenure.
At least I will now really know what intersections to avoid in D.C., right?
What are your plans for the holiday weekend?
Well, we kicked it off today with yummy brunch at Luna Cafe, followed by a hardcore bike ride from our apartment in DC to Kenji's parents' house in Alexandria! It wasn't that hardcore, actually. The ride was a little over two hours and the rain let up as soon as we got out of the city. I fell down after riding too quickly around a curve. :( At least it was a fun reason for wiping out!
Tomorrow we are going to Kings Dominion with Misako and Andrew. Neither of us has been in years and it seemed like an appropriate "last hurrah" for summer.
I have a newfound appreciation for yurts.
How cool would it be to live in one of those, next to a gorgeous lake or river, for a while?
I'm finally getting around to creating albums of our wedding photos
for our parents, and I am looking for some advice. Have any of you used
iPhoto, Shutterfly.com, photoworks.com, etc. etc. to create books using
digital photos and online templates? From what I have seen, they are
pretty limited in terms of design. I can't really judge the quality.
Help!
The (first) Capital Fringe Festival continues this week. Kenji and I are planning to see the One-Man Star Wars Trilogy -- let us know if you are interested in seeing it with us.
I think I've eaten out/purchased the majority of my meals this week. For some reason Kenji and I never got around to grocery shopping. Plus, with the heat I've had no desire to cook something deliciously complicated. Since we're visiting my parents and going to a wedding this weekend, I predict I will be overly full until next Tuesday.
We have a lot of cilantro left over from our trip to the store last weekend for guacamole fixings. What should we do with it?
